(ECS) is defined as the temperature increase that corresponds to a doubling of the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. It is the result of a primary radiative forcing caused by the absorption of a portion of the Earth's back radiation in the infrared, followed by a series of feedbacks of the system as a whole. Also, a short term component of ECS is used, the Transient Climate Response (TCR) that concerns the phenomena that develop over a few years only.
